Here’s a technique you can use to start a fire for survival if you having nothing but a water bottle and a bright sunny day. If you like survival and fire-making techniques, this video is a must see!
The most colorful tree in the world: The Rainbow Eucalyptus tree (Eucalyptus deglupta). The Rainbow Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus deglupta) or 'MINDANAO GUM' looks almost like it's been spray painted, but the up to 70-m tall tree is colored this way completely naturally. Its bark can take on a yellow, green, orange and even purple shading. If you want to spot a Rainbow Eucalyptus tree live and in all its glory, you’ll have to travel to Indonesia, Papua New Guinea or Philippines where the tree grows natively. However, it has been introduced worldwide as an exotic wood in South America, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, China and other countries.
Normally we might expect males to be larger than females, but when it comes to blanket octopi, females can reach up to six feet while males are at most an inch or two long. The males have a specially modified third right arm which stores sperm, known as a hectocotylus. During mating, this arm detaches itself and crawls into the mantle of the female to fertilize her eggs. Weird but true!
Tremoctopus is a genus of pelagic cephalopods, containing four species that occupy surface to mid-waters in subtropical and tropical oceans. They are commonly known as blanket octopuses, in reference to the long transparent webs that connect the dorsal and dorsolateral arms of the adult females. The other arms are much shorter and lack webbing.
These species exhibit an extreme degree of sexual dimorphism.Females may reach 2 metres (6.6 ft) in length, whereas the tiny males are at most a few centimeters long. The males have a specially modified third right arm which stores sperm, known as a hectocotylus. During mating, this arm detaches itself and crawls into the mantle of the female to fertilize her eggs. The male dies shortly after mating. The females carry over 100,000 tiny eggs attached to a sausage-shaped calcareous secretion held at the base of the dorsal arms and carried by the female until hatching.
Blanket octopuses are immune to the poisonous Portuguese man o' war, whose tentacles the male and immature females rip off and use for defensive purposes. Like many other octopuses, the blanket octopuses uses ink to intimidate potential predators. Also, when threatened, the female unfurls her large net-like membranes that spread out and billow in the water, greatly increasing her apparent size. THE SPIRIT MOLECULE weaves an account of Dr. Rick Strassman's groundbreaking DMT research through a multifaceted approach to this intriguing hallucinogen found in the human brain and hundreds of plants, including the sacred Amazonian brew, ayahuasca. Utilizing interviews with a variety of experts to explain their thoughts and experiences with DMT, and ayahuasca, within their respective fields, and discussions with Strassman's research volunteers, brings to life the awesome effects of this compound, and introduces us to far-reaching theories regarding its role in human consciousness. Several themes explored include possible roles for endogenous DMT, its theoretical role in near-death and birth experiences, alien-abduction experiences, and spiritual states, both within Eastern concepts of enlightenment and Western ideas regarding prophecy, and the uncanny similarities in Biblical prophetic texts describing DMT-like experiences. Our expert contributors offer a comprehensive collection of information, opinions, and speculation about indigenous use of DMT, the history and future of psychedelics within the research community, and within the larger social matrix, and current DMT research. All this, to help us understand the nature of the DMT experience, and its role in human culture and evolution. The subtle stimulating combination of science, spirituality, anthropology, sociology, and philosophy within the film's approach sheds light on an array of ideas that could considerably alter the way humans understand the universe and their relationship to it.
No Weed, Just Weeds: City of Arlington SWAT Raid on Peaceful Organic Farmers is a Big Budget Bust
''We have been targeted by the system because we are showing people how to live without it. We are growing more than just tomatoes here, we are growing the consciousness that will allow people to live freely and sustainably, and the system doesn’t want that to be known.''
ARLINGTON, TX – At around seven thirty last Friday morning, inhabitants of The Garden of Eden, a small Intentional Community based on Sustainability, were awakened by a SWAT raid conducted by the City of Arlington for suspicion of being a full fledged marijuana growth and trafficking operation. Ultimately only a single arrest was made based on unrelated outstanding traffic violations, a handful of citations were given for city code violations, and zero drug related violations were found.
The entire operation lasted about 10 hours and involved many dozens of city officials, SWAT team, police officers and code compliance employees, and numerous official vehicles including dozens of police cars and several specialized vehicular equipment that was involved in the “abatement” operation. Witnesses say that there were helicopters and unmanned flying drones circling the property in the days prior to the raid that are presumed to have been a part of the intelligence gathering. The combined expenses for the raid itself and the collection of information leading up to the fruitless raid are estimated in the tens of thousands of taxpayer dollars.
All 8 adults present in the house were initially handcuffed at the gunpoint of heavily armed SWAT officers, including the mother of a 22 month old and a two week old baby who was separated from her children during the raid. The police enforced activity on the day of the raid included mowing the grass, the forcible destruction of both wild and cultivated plants like blackberries, lamb’s quarters and okra, and the removal of other varied materials from around the premises such as pallets, tires and cardboard that the Community members say they had collected for use in sustainability projects. No marijuana or other drugs were found on site and the inhabitants of the premises were all unarmed.
After several hours and many requests from the community members, the City Police Officers finally produced two warrants. The first was a Search Warrant for a suspected marijuana growth and distribution operation purportedly being concealed on the premises. There was also an Inspection & Abatement Warrant for code compliance violations such as tall grass and storage in the yard, an issue that the City of Arlington and The Garden of Eden have been disputing since February of this year. The marijuana warrant was issued based on an unsubstantiated claim by an Arlington City Police Officer of possession of marijuana by one of the community members for which there is no police record. Garden of Eden community members also say they have a series of documents showing that their dispute with the City of Arlington over the code compliance violations had already been addressed and settled.
Landowner Shellie Smith states that she has been requesting a peaceful and honorable resolution since the onset of the dispute in February, requesting the aid of the City Manager Trey Yelverton, Sheriff Dee Anderson and Mayor Robert Cluck, but has received no response in the matter. Ms. Smith says “the City codes are in violation of our natural and Constitutional rights to live freely while causing damage to no one, and since there is no damaged party, there has been no crime committed on our part. Rather, the City of Arlington has trespassed and committed robbery against us, amongst other crimes, and will be held accountable in a court of law in due time. We have been targeted by the system because we are showing people how to live without it. We are growing more than just tomatoes here, we are growing the consciousness that will allow people to live freely and sustainably, and the system doesn’t want that to be known.”
The Garden of Eden is a small intentional community in southwest Arlington dedicated to Freedom, Sustainability and Responsibility. Since 2009 they have been providing food, shelter and sustainability education classes and workshops to the public for free. Their 3.5 acre land contains chickens, bees, composting stations, a large vegetable garden and many wildcrafted trees and plants that are used for foods, medicines, and household and beauty products. Their vision is to be a fully self-sustaining center for education on sustainable living. Industrial hemp has been used for thousands of years to make everything from Food to Clothing. but lets get somethings cleared up first. Hemp and Marijuana are two different strains of the Cannabis plant, while Marijuana is harvested for its flowers high THC content which provided the psychoactive effect desired, Hemp is harvested for its stock and their fibers and has a very low THC content. In fact it would literally take 1 ton of hemp to get a psychoactive effect, and lets be honest, if you’re trying to smoke a ton of hemp, you have a lot more problems than trying to get high.
Hemp can be used to make thousands of different products, but here are five that are simply MIND-BLOWING:
1. Paper This you’ve probably heard of, but hemp is such an ideal plant for making paper and has been used that reason for the past 2,000 years. reasons for it’s low production in today’s market (0.05%) range from propaganda instigated by the timber industry to the age of the processing equipment being so out of date that it would be several times more expensive to make.
However hemp is a far better and quicker source for renewable and sustainable pulp for paper. Hemp grows from seed to harvest with in a few months, where as in trees can take 30 years of more to be ready to be made into paper. Government studies report that the paper made from 1 acre of hemp, is the equivalent to 4.1 acres of trees to make the same amount of paper
DID YOU KNOW? In 1916, the U.S. Government predicted that by the 1940′s all paper would come from hemp and that no more trees would need to be cut down.
Imagine that! If we as a collective society decide that we rather buy hemp paper rather than tree paper, we could SAVE and REPLANT the worlds forests!
2. Building Supplies Of all the uses for hemp, a real Mind-Opener is all the different sorts of building materials it provides:
Hemp based materials can replace wood and other materials used to build homes and other structures including foundations, walls, shingles, paneling, pipes, and paint. You can make it into insulation as companies in the Netherlands and Ireland are already doing. Hemp can even be used to make ‘hempcrete’, a stronger, lighter, and more environmentally friendly version of concrete, which is lightweight, waterproof, fireproof, self-insulating and resistant to pests..
Houses built from hemp have been found to use less energy, create less waste and take less fuel to heat than conventionally constructed homes. 3. Plastics Just about everything we buy has some form of plastic involved in the product. Almost everything is wrapped in cellophane and our landfills are littered with them. Standard plastic is made from fossil fuels using very toxic chemicals. From packaging to toys, a myriad of alternatives to plastic can be made from hemp.
In 1941, Henry Ford held a media event where he swung an axe at a prototype car body made of hemp and other plant material to prove its strength. The technology was never put into mass production, cars continued to be made of steel, and plastics made from petrochemicals became the norm. Possibly because of the monopolies Carnegie Steel and Rockefeller’s Standard Oil had on the marketplace.
... and if that’s too retro for you, here’s a car made by Lotus in 2008, almost completely made out of hemp materials.
4. Fuel Yes, hemp can even be used to make bio-fuel!
Just like many other vegetable oil, hemp oil can be processed into bio-diesel Unlike fossil fuels, hemp fuel is renewable and produces significantly less carbon monoxide. It also stands to reason that hemp could also be utilized to make liquid fuels that are chemically identical to petroleum-based gasoline as well.
However there still are the concerns of converting the amount of land needed that could be used for hemp production, but the bio-diesel is certainly a viable option.
5. Chemical Cleanup One of the most intriguing uses for hemp its ability to clean up up soil contamination. In 1998 industrial hemp was tested at the site of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster in Ukraine to help heal the soil. by planting in to the ground in Chernobyl, hemp helped to remove radioactive elements and heavy metals from soil and water in the contaminated area. Because of its fast rate of growing each season, up to 250-400 plants per square meter each up to 15 feet tall, hemp shows good potential in cleaning up land contaminated with fly ash, sewage sludge, or other heavy metals. Food for Thought: The reason for the under utilization of all these amazing uses for hemp is due to other industries efforts in suppressing this information in the hopes of their product continuing to thrive. But in the age of the internet, we are seeing that these previous industries are not sustainable and are ruining our planet. However something we forget is that these harmful industries thrive because we buy their products, if we all petitioned for and bought more hemp products, the marketplace will turn it’s way. Remember, together we are powerful enough to change anything.

RESEARCH SHOWS THE EFFECTS OF LIGHT ON MELATONIN PRODUCTION
Melatonin is the sleep hormone produced naturally in the human body by the pineal gland in the brain. Tests have now conclusively proven that different light wavelengths have different effects on the body’s melatonin production.
In a test performed in 2001 by Debra Skene at the University of Surrey, light was shone into volunteers’ eyes in the middle of the night, when melatonin production levels are at their peak. Melatonin production was found to be clearly sensitive to light: production levels decreased as light intensity increased. However, what was interesting was that the different wavelengths of light produced different results. The shortest wavelengths, what we see as dark blue, caused the greatest drop in melatonin. What is particularly interesting is that the rods and cones in the retina barely detect this wavelength of light.
"Skene concluded that there must be a third, still unknown type of photoreceptor that tells the brain when to stop making melatonin"
A further study in 2002, by David Berson of Brown University, went on to confirm that a new type of photoreceptor existed. Berson described them as a type of retinal ganglion cell. These cells extend long projections into a part of the brain called suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN). They transmit information directly from the eyes into the region of the brain that regulates the circadian clock These photoreceptors are the sensor in the pineal gland that receive the blue light, which signals to the pineal gland to stop producing melatonin.
What these tests found was that there are two completely separate systems in operation in our eyes. One, using rods and cones, allows us to see things. The second controls the release of melatonin. The photoreceptors receive information directly from the eye to the part of the brain that regulates our body clock, or circadian rhythm.
In 2003 it was confirmed by Lockley et al that the shorter wavelengths of light have a greater effect on melatonin production. The short 460 nanometres (nm) wavelengths of light suppress melatonin twice as much as longer 555 nm light, the wavelength best seen my the human eye.
"It was demonstrated that if we can control the wavelengths of light reaching the eye, we can control our internal clocks"
In 2005 Christian Cajochen at University Basel in Switzerland, successfully reset the circadian clocks of test subjects through the use of colored lights. Test subjects were exposed to indigo-blue light with a wavelength of 460 nm, green-yellow light with a wavelength of 550 nm, or complete darkness. The researchers then monitored each subject’s sleep / wake cycle. Subjects in complete darkness showed normal nighttime trends of reduced core-body temperatures, slower heart rates, higher melatonin production and increased sleepiness. Exposing subjects to the indigo-blue light suppressed melatonin production and other normal nighttime trends. Green-yellow light had a minimal effect.
In 2007 a further study by Farhan Zaidi et al, at the imperial College London concluded that there are two separate functional light sensing systems in the eye: one for vision, and one for setting our sleep / wake pattern. Blind people who lack rods and cones in their eyes but still have functional blue light sensitive ganglion in their eyes were still able to unconsciously sense whether it was light or dark by detecting blue light. By shining a light in their eyes, the researchers were able to delay the subjects’ body clock cycle, proving that their ganglion cells still registered light. The blue light caused melatonin production to drop by 60%, while at the same time alertness sharpened and brain activity increased, demonstrating that the body clock had been tricked into thinking it was daytime.
The wavelength of 480 nm which the retinal ganglia are so sensitive to, is in the blue spectrum. In fact, it is very similar to the color of the sky on a bright sunny day. Bright lights, especially blue lights, tell our brain that it is morning.
Conversely, when the sun is setting the eye sends signals to the brain that night is falling, which activates the pineal gland to produce melatonin. Melatonin then works to induce feelings of drowsiness, acting as the signal to the body that it’s time for bed.
Fire tornadoes are one of the most unpredictable natural phenomenas known to man, usually alighting in dry, heated and windy weather associated with intense bush fires. Also known as ‘the devil’s whirl’, they are usually around 200 feet tall and when they hit populated areas they are devastating. In 1923, a fire tornado killed 38,000 people in less than fifteen minutes across a district of Tokyo.
Fire tornadoes are rare in nature, but when they do start spinning they're even hotter than a regular fire. James Williams gets an explanation on how and why they occur from a fire protection expert.
The night sky is set to be illuminated later by what will appear to be a much bigger and brighter Moon.
A supermoon is the coincidence of a full moon or a new moon with the closest approach the Moon makes to the Earth on its elliptical orbit, resulting in the largest apparent size of the moon's disk as seen from Earth. The technical name is the perigee-syzygy of the Earth-Moon-Sun system. The term "supermoon" is not astronomical, but originated in modern astrology. The association of the Moon with both oceanic and crustal tides has led to claims that the supermoon phenomenon may be associated with increased risk of events such as earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. However, the evidence of such a link is widely held to be unconvincing.
The next occurrence will be on June 23, 2013. This full moon will be the closest and largest full moon of the year. It also presents the moon’s closest encounter with Earth for all of 2013. The moon will not be so close again until August 10, 2014.
They occur about once every 14 full moons in a full moon cycle.
Full moon falls on June 23, 2013 at 11:32 UTC (6:32 a.m. CDT in the U.S.). Thus, for many, the moon appears about as full in the June 22 evening sky as it does on the evening of June 23. This full moon is not only the closest and largest full moon of the year. It also presents the moon’s closest encounter with Earth for all of 2013. The moon will not be so close again until August, 2014. In other words, it’s not just a supermoon. It’s the closest supermoon of 2013.
At United States’ time zones, the moon will turn full on June 23 at 7:32 a.m. EDT, 6:32 a.m. CDT, 5:32 a.m. MDT and 4:32 a.m. PDT.
Heard of earthing yet? It's all the rage among people who want to be more energetic, clear, healthy and youthful. Place your feet on the sand or grass for 10-20 minutes. Simple as that.
The ideal location would be walking barefoot on the beach, close to or in the water, as sea water is a great conductor. A close second is grass covered in dew. Concrete is a good conductor as long as it hasn't been sealed.
Dr. James Oschman, a top expert of biophysics energy medicine, claims that when bare feet connect with the ground, a transfer happens of free electrons from the earth through the skin. These electrons are the most powerful antioxidants known. Antioxidants help to ease inflammation along with helping to repair cell and tissue damage. Free electrons have a negative charge while free radicals have a positive charge. (One of the causes of cancer is free radical damage in your cells that harms your DNA and results in cells mutating into cancerous cells. Every chemical and toxin in your body causes free radical damage. Processed foods generate more free radicals than whole foods.) With the invention of rubber soled shoes, we have cut ourselves off from the earth's supply of free electrons.
The feet contain an intricate and sensitive network of nerves and acupuncture points. Because of this, the feet are especially adept at picking up free electrons.
Earthing benefits are
Anti-aging
Sound sleep
Heightened clarity
A calm nervous system
Accelerated healing from injuries
Enhanced immune system
Reduced PMS symptoms
Increased energy
Reduction in inflammation
Elimination of jet lag
Protection against electromagnetic fields
Cardiovascular health because earthing thins your blood and helps it flow easier. Also causes your blood pressure to drop.
