Iraq's Secret War Files

The only TV doc to have advance access to the biggest Wikileaks release ever. This is what really happened during the Iraq war, not what the US PR machine of the time wanted us to believe. The reality behind the civilian death count; al-Qaeda's fictitious presence; torture, torture and more torture. A wall of truth revealing unprecedented levels of unwarranted aggression.

Bolivian President to Sue US Govt for Crimes Against Humanity

Bolivian President Evo Morales will file a lawsuit against the US government for crimes against humanity. He has decried the US for its intimidation tactics and fear-mongering after the Venezuelan presidential jet was blocked from entering US airspace.
“I would like to announce that we are preparing a lawsuit against Barack Obama to condemn him for crimes against humanity,” said President Morales at a press conference in the Bolivian city of Santa Cruz. He branded the US president as a “criminal” who violates international law.
In solidarity with Venezuela, Bolivia will begin preparing a lawsuit against the US head of state to be taken to the international court. Furthermore, Morales has called an emergency meeting of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) to discuss what has been condemned by Venezuela as “an act of intimidation by North American imperialism.”
The Bolivian president has suggested that the members of CELAC withdraw their ambassadors from the US to send a message to the Obama Administration. As an additional measure he will call on the member nations of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Americas to boycott the next meeting of the UN. Members of the Alliance include Antigua and Barbuda, Cuba, Dominica, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Venezuela and Saint Lucia.

“The US cannot be allowed to continue with its policy of intimidation and blockading presidential flights,”
stressed Morales.

The Venezuelan government announced on Thursday that President Nicolas Maduro’s plane had been denied entry into Puerto Rican (US) airspace.

“We have received the information from American officials that we have been denied travel over its airspace,” Venezuelan Foreign Minister Elias Jaua said, speaking to reporters during an official meeting with his South African counterpart. Jaua decried the move “as yet another act of aggression on the part of North American imperialism against the government of the Bolivarian Republic.”

President Maduro was due to arrive in Beijing this weekend for bilateral talks with the Chinese government. Jaua was adamant that the Venezuelan leader would reach his destination, regardless of any perceived interference.

The US government has not yet made any statement regarding the closing of its airspace to the Venezuelan presidential plane. Puerto Rico is an unincorporated territory of the US.

Relations on the rocks

Washington’s relations with Latin America have deteriorated since the beginning of the year following the aerial blockade that forced Bolivian President Evo Morales’ plane to land in Austria in July. Several EU countries closed their airspace to the presidential jet because of suspicions that former CIA employee Edward Snowden - wanted in the US on espionage charges - was on board. Bolivia alleged that the US was behind the aerial blockade.

In response to the incident, Latin American leaders joined together in condemnation of what they described as “neo-colonial intimidation.”

Later in the year, the revelations on the US’ global spy network released by Edward Snowden did little to improve relations. Leaked wires revealed that the National Security Agency (NSA) had monitored the private communications of both the Brazilian and Mexican presidents.

The Brazilian government denounced the NSA surveillance as “impermissible and unacceptable,” and a violation of Brazilian sovereignty. As a result of US spying Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff haspostponed a state visit to Washington in October.

Syrian Civil War: Inside the Armed Opposition

Recently tensions have been mounting between self-declared jihadists and Western-backed moderates fighting the Bashar al-Assad government in Syria. But who are these self-declared jihadists and how influential are they? How many factions or sub-groups make up the armed opposition? This article attempts to explain how complex the armed opposition in Syria really is.
When I began researching into the opposition my head began to spin. I found countless organizations and quickly realized how complex the situation really is. Tensions and hostilities are bound to arise when contrasting groups are trying to unite and fight together.
The main opposition group fighting in Syria is the Free Syrian Army (FSA) having an estimated 80,000 to 100,000 fighters. Composed of defected Syrian armed forces personnel and volunteers it is the most secular and moderate part of the opposition and has no political goals except the removal of the Bashar al-Assad government. Most FSA members are Sunni; the largest branch of Islam and Syria’s largest community.
The FSA mostly operate in the central region of Syria, Homs, Hama and the surrounding areas, but have elements operating nationwide. It has adopted guerrilla-style tactics against the government having declared it does not have the resources to occupy and take control of territories. It has very few heavy weapons and makes use of improvised explosive devices to attack military convoys of buses, trucks and tanks that are transporting supplies and security personnel.
al-Nusra Front Executions

The FSA is internationally supported and are seen as the ‘good guys’. Sadly, a little research and you find out that the good guys are not so good. They have been accused of summarily executing prisoners, recruiting children as soldiers, kidnapping and executing pilgrims and a prominent Syrian actor, throwing civilians off rooftops and cutting organs from the bodies of dead prisoners.
Another group operating in Syria is the al-Nusra Front (ANF) or Jabhat al-Nusra. The ANF is an al-Qaeda associate and is designated a terrorist organization by the United Nations, the United States, Australia, and the United Kingdom. They have been described as “the most aggressive and successful arm of the rebel force” and as of early 2013, the ANF is estimated to have around 6,000 fighters. The ANF desires to create a Syria under Sharia law which alarms the more secular armed groups.
The FSA has consistently condemned the ANF´s use of suicide bombs during the war and indeed it appears that suicide bombings are their expertise. As of June 2013, the ANF had claimed responsibility for 57 of the 70 suicide attacks carried out since the beginning of the war.
al-Nusra Front Fighters
al-Nusra Front Fighters
Strong words have been exchanged between the FSA and ANF for some time. The FSA accuses the ANF and others of “hijacking a revolution that began as an uprising to demand a democratic system”. According to the FSA their presence is reducing popular support for the opposition and many want the ANF to leave Syria. In December 2012 a leading FSA fighter made clear the way future events may unfold. “The next war after Bashar al-Assad falls will be between us and the Islamists”.
One group which probably has broader support among ordinary Syrians is the Syrian Islamic Front (SIF), with an estimated 25,000 fighters. The SIF declares its aims as toppling the Assad government and establishing an Islamic state. It opposes U.S. intervention against the regime and would consider such an intervention as new aggression against Muslims. Its largest group is the Salafist Ahrar al-Sham, which reportedly leads and dominates the Front.
As of late 2012, one of the strongest armed coalitions in Syria, representing up to half of Bashar al-Assad’s armed opponents, was the Syrian Islamic Liberation Front (SILF) estimated at having up to 40,000 fighters. The SILF overshadows the FSA in some regions and has some of the most important rebel units active in the war. The coalition obtains their weapons from attacks on the Syrian armed forces and from arms dealers but is also reportedly receives support from Turkey and Qatar. Again, the SILF much like the FSA has a minimalist political platform, promising to protect minorities and stating that religious Muslim law is the point of reference for the group.
Another group fighting in Syria is the Syrian Liberation Army (SLA); a loose coalition of localized forces, mostly composed of armed Syrian civilians who have joined the uprising. Based in Idlib Governorate, the SLA is primarily concerned with trying to expel government forces from the governorate. The SLA claims that over 70,000 youths are ready to join the group but are prevented from doing so due to lack of weaponry and equipment. Similarly to the FSA, the SLA concentrates on bombings and roadside explosions.
Having a little understanding of the groups involved helps understand recent developments.
Recently the al-Nusra Front (ANF) have said that they fear U.S. missile attacks against Syrian military installations would also target them, and that the West is seeking to use moderate rebel factions to keep them in check. In early September the ANF announced it would “go to war” against other rebel groups in in the Aleppo governorate.

Battles have taken place between rebel factions over the last few days.
On 14-September in the eastern province of Deir Ezzor, near the Iraqi border, deadly clashes erupted between the ANF and FSA.
On 18-September ANF fighters killed FSA members and took control of an area close to the Turkish border. Fighters from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, an element of the ANF stormed the town of Azaz, 5km from the Syrian-Turkish border, and killed at least five FSA members, activists reported, adding 100 people were taken captive.
Allegations are also circulating that some rebel groups are collaborating with the Assad regime. The Ahfad al-Rasul Brigade, who operates independently, is such a group and has been accused of doing so by the ANF. Along with the allegation the ANF blew up the Ahfad al-Rasul headquarters and rounded up several of its members.
“You do not see ANF fighters in hotspots clashing with the regime. You see them trying to extend their control to areas we struggled hard to liberate” an Ahfad al-Rasoul fighter told Al Jazeera.
Recent developments have revealed major fractures are emerging within the armed opposition. Territorial disputes are taking place and threats are being made. The future of the struggle against the Bashar al-Assad government in Syria looks bleak.

WATCH: College Students Chase David Petraeus and Shout at Him on First Day of Class

Recent video shows former CIA director David Petraeus being chased down a New York City street by student activists at the City University of New York.
Petraeus was reportedly on the way to teaching his first class at CUNY’s honors college, entitled “Are We on the Threshold of the North American Decade?” He took on the teaching gig as part of rehabilitating his image following an extramarital affair scandal that led to his resignation from the CIA.
The students can be heard yelling “War criminal!” at the retired military officer who played a key role in the “counterinsurgency” strategy of the Iraq War. “Every class, David!” the students shout, suggesting they plan to protest him on a weekly basis, before every lecture.
“Petraeus out of CUNY” and “Fascist” were some of the other chants.
At one point, Petraeus and two of the students dart off into the middle of a street with an oncoming bus honking. Despite the repeated expletives hurled his way, the former general never once responded to the crowd.

18 U.S. Veterans Commit Suicide Every Day

18 U.S. Veterans Commit Suicide Every Day; Largely Due To Psychiatric Drugs

"If mentally incapacitated troops are being drugged with dangerous, mind-altering drugs and deployed to battle against their will, how can we say that we have a volunteer army?" asked Alliance for Human Research Protection, the national network dedicated to advancing responsible and ethical medical research practices.

This is just one of the many criticisms being levied against the U.S. military in light of its liberal use of prescription medication, which is now being linked to rising suicide rates among soldiers.

A study released by the Army in June 2009 indicated that nearly as many American troops at home and abroad committed suicide in the first six months of 2006 as the number who had been killed in combat in Afghanistan during the same time period (http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=131096642).

An average of 18 American veterans commit suicide every day (http://abcnews.go.com/Health/MindMoodNews/fort-hood-shooting-puts-spo...). Now, the increasingly high number of deaths among both veterans and active duty soldiers--including suicides, accidental overdose, and lethal drug interactions--have now been linked to the exponential increase in the prescribing of drugs for post traumatic stress disorder, depression, and other psychological illnesses.(http://www.ahrp.org/cms/content/view/779/56/)

Prior to the Iraq war, American soldiers in combat zones did not take psychiatric medications, according to PBS Frontline documentary The Wounded Platoon, which aired in May 2010. (http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/woundedplatoon/etc/synopsis.h...) But by the time of the 2007 surge more than 20,000 of our deployed troops were taking antidepressants and sleeping pills.

These drugs allowed soldiers with post-traumatic stress disorder to remain in combat when they otherwise could not.

"What I use medications for is to treat very specific side effects," said Army psychiatrist Col. George Brandt. "I don't want somebody in a helpless mode in a combat environment. I want to make sure I don't have someone with suicidal thoughts where everyone is armed."

Well over 300,000 troops have returned from Iraq or Afghanistan with P.T.S.D., depression, traumatic brain injury or some combination of those, according to The New York Times (http://www.nytimes.com/2011/02/13/us/13drugs.html). Following the lead of civilian medicine, the military has relied heavily on medications to treat those problems, resulting in more widespread use of drugs in the military than in any previous war.

The aforementioned Army report on suicide recognized that one-third of the troops were taking at least one prescription medication and stated that prescription drug use was on the rise. The report also noted that one-third of the 162 active-duty soldiers who committed suicide in 2009 were taking medication.

Frontline's The Wounded Platoon looked at the problem of PTSD, depression and prescription medication in the military from the perspective of one platoon from Fort Carson, CO. 18 soldiers from Fort Carson have been charged with or convicted of murder, manslaughter or attempted murder committed in the United States, since the beginning of the "War on Terror," and 36 have committed suicide.

Jose Barco, who was once known as the hero who saved his fellow soldiers during a suicide-bombing, is now serving a 52-year prison sentence for attempted murder. Barco suffered traumatic brain injury as a result of his heroics and was also diagnosed with PTSD for which he was prescribed nine different medications.

"We have someone who's been emotionally traumatized, and they've got PTSD," said retired military psychiatrist Stephen Xenakis. "They're anxious, and they're depressed, and they've got TBI, which means that they've got problems in decision making. They can't think as clearly. They are really vulnerable to just overreacting."

The rate of PTSD diagnosis at Fort Carson rose 4,000 percent between 2002 and 2010, and the increase in medications being prescribed for both veterans and those in combat rose to meet the demand.

Kenny Eastridge, another platoon member that Frontline spoke with who is in jail for murder and other crimes, was prescribed a cocktail of medications while in combat.

"I was having a total mental breakdown. Every day we were getting in battles and never having a break. It seemed like, it was just crazy," he said. "They put me on all kinds of meds, and I was still going out on missions. They had me on Ambien, Remeron, Lexapro, Celexa, all kind of different stuff."

Eastridge was sent to a remote combat outpost for weeks at a time with no medical supervision or mental health provision, despite the recommendation that patients on this medication should be monitored. Frontline footage showed Eastridge's unstable behavior, which included wandering into Iraqi homes, lying in the people's beds, and trying to hug local people.

As more soldiers return home to Fort Carson, concern abounds."We're all wondering what's going to happen," says Colorado Springs psychotherapist Robert Alvarez. "It's a scary thought, you know, what's going to happen in this community. Are we going to have more murders? Are we going to have more suicides, or are we going to have more crime? I think the answer to that is probably yes."

Good Will Hunting had it right 14 years ago

My favourite scene from Good Will Hunting and pertinent to the principles of liberty in its condemnation of killing people abroad who have done no harm to you personally. Taken to it's logical conclusion this belief should lead anybody who holds it to a pure libertarian position; though most won't, of course.

A Message To Humanity: The Time is Now - The Revolution Is Coming!

A revolution is coming to America.. Not Just America but the World, people are waking up and finally realising how the world works and that their rights as free human beings are slowly being taken away from them.. The 99% are rising up!

As we gather together in solidarity to express a feeling of mass injustice, we must not lose
sight of what brought us together. We write so that all people who feel wronged by the corporate forces of the world can know that we are your allies. As one people, united, we acknowledge the reality: that the future of the human race requires the cooperation of its members; that our system must protect our rights, and upon
corruption of that system, it is up to the individuals to protect their own rights, and
those of their neighbors; that a democratic government derives its just power from the
people, but corporations do not seek consent to extract wealth from the people and the
Earth; and that no true democracy is attainable when the process is determined by economic
power.

We come to you at a time when corporations, which place profit over people, self-interest
over justice, and oppression over equality, run our governments. We have peaceably assembled
here, as is our right, to let these facts be known.
They have taken our houses through an illegal foreclosure process, despite not having the original mortgage. They have taken bailouts from taxpayers with impunity, and continue to give Executives exorbitant bonuses.
They have perpetuated inequality and discrimination in the workplace based on age, the color of one's skin, sex, gender identity and sexual orientation.

They have poisoned the food supply through negligence, and undermined the farming system
through monopolization. They have profited off of the torture, confinement, and cruel treatment of countless animals, and actively hide these practices. They have continuously sought to strip employees of the right to negotiate for better pay andsafer working conditions. They have held students hostage with tens
of thousands of dollars of debt on education, which is itself a human right. They have consistently outsourced labor and used that outsourcing as leverage to cut workers'healthcare and pay. They have influenced the courts to achievethe same rights as people, with none of the culpability or responsibility.

They have spent millions of dollars on legal teams that look for ways to get them out of contracts in regards to health insurance. They have sold our privacy as a commodity. They have used the military and police force to prevent freedom of the press. They have deliberately declined to recall faulty products endangering lives in pursuit of profit. They determine economic policy, despite the catastrophic failures their policies have produced and continue to produce. They have donated large sums of money to politicians, who are responsible for regulating them. They continue to block alternate forms of energy to keep us dependent on oil. They continue to block generic forms of medicine that could save people's lives or provide relief in order to protect investments that have already turned a substantial profit. They have purposely covered up oil spills, accidents, faulty bookkeeping, and inactive ingredients in pursuit of profit.

They purposefully keep people misinformed and fearful through their control of the media. They have accepted private contracts to murder prisoners even when presented with serious doubts about their guilt. They have perpetuated colonialism at home and abroad. They have participated in the torture and murder of innocent civilians overseas. They continue to create weapons of mass destruction in order to receive government contracts. To the people of the world, we, the New York City General Assembly occupying Wall Street in Liberty Square, urge you to assert your power.Exercise your right to peaceably assemble; occupy public space; create a process to address the problems we face, and generate solutions accessible to everyone.

To all communities that take action and form groups in the spirit of direct democracy,we offer support, documentation, and all of the resources at our disposal.
Join us and make your voices heard!

The statement issued from Zuccotti Park, by the general assembly, at Occupy Wall Street.

Monsanto's Evil Agent Orange

Monsanto's Agent Orange caused over half a million Vietnamese children to be born with deformities.

Since the Vietnam War ended and the effects of Agent Orange have become more apparent, many are beginning to look back at the effect it had on the people of Vietnam. Tran is one of many. Her story represents millions living in the shadows of a lasting legacy.

These children will never live a normal life; their deformities are physical signs of human decay. Although their parents were not even born until after the Vietnam War, 18 million gallons of the toxic herbicide, sprayed through the jungles of South Vietnam, is still penetrating the DNA of those born today.

"There are millions and millions of victims still alive and are suffering from illnesses and from cancers," said Dr. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Phuong, the Director General of Ngoc Tam Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Dr. Nguyen is Tran's doctor and accompanied Tran to testify on Capitol Hill.

The US government has acknowledged a connection between Agent Orange and the health defects and ailments that continue to plague the lives of Vietnam War veterans for generations. But the US has refused to make the same link for the millions of Vietnamese War victims whose lives have been devastated as a result of Agent Orange.

This is why delegations are here in Washington following a report issued by lawmakers, scientists and doctors calling on the US government to own up to its Agent Orange legacy in Vietnam today.

Government records show nearly 95 percent of all US Agent Orange related aid is committed to contain and remove dioxin contamination. In fact, the US has been providing medical aid for everything but Agent Orange treatment and medical exploration.

Those fighting for justice in the case of Vietnamese Agent Orange victims want the physical and psychological damages to be acknowledged.

"If they accept, they have to pay to compensate for millions of people, not only in Vietnam but also in the United States and also to the other countries, like Korea, the Philippines, Australia and New Zealand," said Dr. Phuong.

Jonathan Moore, an attorney from New York, says US chemical companies at the time of the Vietnam War knew the purpose of the Agent Orange they produced. He says they should be held responsible for its impact.

"The Agent Orange -- used in Vietnam -- that was manufactured by Dow, Monsanto and other chemical companies in the US at the time, contained dioxin rates that were unnecessary and had no effect on the purpose that the herbicides were used for. It wasn't a defoliant, it was simply a chemical that was created because Dow and Monsanto used a process which even at the time was contrary to industry standards," Jonathan Moore says. "Any way you look at it -- from the moral, or ethical, or legal standpoint, we believe these corporations should be held responsible for the harm they caused because they knew what was going to happen."

Obama Could Be Indicted For War Crimes

On October 2, 2002, Barack Obama burst onto the national scene with his famous anti-war speech at the Federal Plaza in Chicago. Mysteriously—or not so mysteriously per the 2008 Obama presidential campaign—video of the speech was “lost” except for thirteen seconds (shown in the above video). Many believe it was lost because the panning camera would have revealed a who’s who of radical leftists, anti-Semites, and “social justice” (that is socialist) unions  in the audience.

It was only one step then from the 2004 Democratic Convention keynote speech to the presidency. Along the way, Obama continued to rally his anti-war shock troops, complete with “Bush is a war criminal” posters and frothing protesters reminiscent of the anti-Vietnam War movement.
Oddly, or not so oddly, these anti-war protesters suddenly disappeared once Obama ascended to the presidency. But lo and behold, when the Occupy Wall Street movement got under way, the same radicals who were part of the anti-war movement were now part of the “pay your fair share” movement.
But “anti-war” President Obama proved himself nothing of the kind. He embraced the use of Orwellian doublespeak and secrecy to conduct endless wars that has made George W. Bush look like a pacifist.
The non-war war in Libya wasn’t a war because Obama never invoked the War Powers Act—or more correctly, he refused to seek approval for the war from Congress. Then-Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta famously told Congress that seeking “international permission” from NATO was sufficient for action against Gaddafi.  Obama’s rationale, on the other hand, for not seeking Congressional approval, was because we didn’t have any boots on the ground. Because we pulverized Gaddafi with a blitzkrieg of air power instead of a standing army, then, technically, war was never declared. According to this line of reasoning, the attack on Pearl Harbor was not actually a declaration of war.
Because of Obama’s non-war war in Libya, we have much of Libya (and North Africa for that matter) controlled by al-Qaeda, which led directly to the attack on the Benghazi consulate on the anniversary of 9/11.

Why didn’t Obama send in help to save Americans when the Benghazi consulate was attacked? We now know at least one stand down order was given. It is a forgone conclusion it was because Benghazi was ground zero for another one of Obama’s non-war wars—in Syria—in which Obama had been secretly shipping weapons to the Syrian “rebels” (and sending in help would have revealed this.)
The difference between Libya and Syria is that in Libya, the fact that the rebels were linked to al-Qaeda was kept under wraps. The Syrian rebels, on the other hand, make no bones about their links to al-Qaeda.
But this is only the surface of Obama’s non-war wars. John Brennan (simply a terrorism advisor to Obama until recently being named CIA director), according to the extensively research bookBenghazi: The Definitive Report, has been waging a series of secret wars in North Africa and the Middle East against al-Qaeda and al-Qaeda-linked groups for years. Brennan and his minions at JSOC (Joint Special Operations Command) have not only been operating outside the purview of Congress, but outside the purview of the Pentagon and CIA. Former CIA head David Petraeus wasn’t even aware of Brennan’s secret wars!
According to Benghazi: The Definitive Report, the attack on the Benghazi consulate had nothing to do with, as we were told, an amateurish anti-Muslim YouTube video leading to a “protest turned violent”—now completely debunked by the release on Monday of the “revised” White House talking points—but was retaliation for John Brennan’s JSOC attacks on the al-Qaeda-linked group Ansar al-Sharia.
Not only in charge of dozens of secret wars, Brennan then as now is in charge of the vast drone program that has reached a frightening level. Obama authorized more drone strikes in the first ten months of his presidency than George W. Bush carried out in his entire eight-year presidency.
Obama authorizes, for the most part, what are called “signature” strikes, which means in a nut shell that you are never sure who you are killing. This of course translates into hundreds if not thousands of civilian casualties, including women and children.
Jeremy Scahill’s just-published blockbuster book, Dirty Wars, gives a laundry list of the “anti-war” Obama’s real record as a warmonger.
Just six months into his presidency, on June 23, 2009, Obama authorized the use of a drone to fire multiple hellfire missiles to take out a single “high value target” (HVT) on a funeral procession!  According to Dirty Wars:
Scores of civilians— estimates ranged between eighteen and forty-five— were killed. “After the prayers ended people were asking each other to leave the area as drones were hovering,” said a man who lost his leg in the attack. “First two drones fired two missiles, it created a havoc, there was smoke and dust everywhere. Injured people were crying and asking for help… they fired the third missile after a minute, and I fell on the ground.”
And this is just one instance of what many are calling war crimes. It is estimated that for every “high value target” killed by a drone, fifty civilians are killed, predominantly women and children.
All of this has been conveniently covered up by Obama’s compliant media, but it appears the wheels are now coming off the “anti-war” Obama bus.
Buried in the mainstream media amid the Boston Marathon terror attack the day before, on April 16, an organization called the Constitution Project  released the mammoth 600 page study entitled “The Report of The Constitution Project’s Task Force on Detainee Treatment.”
The report comes to some shocking conclusions. It in effect makes the case that Barack Hussein Obama, under international law, is guilty of war crimes and should be indicted.
In the coming days, we will be looking at this mammoth document along with Jeremy Scahill’s equally mammoth study, discussing Obama’s Dirty Wars in order to determine if in fact Barack Hussein Obama is a war criminal who should be indicted for war crimes.
