Study Finds Over 24,000 Chemicals In Bottled Water

German researchers have discovered endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs), that could adversely affect development and reproduction, to be contained in 18 different bottled water products(1). Of the 24,520 suspect chemicals found to be present in bottled water, the one that showed consistent results and illustrated anti-androgenic and anti-estrogenic activity is di(2-ethylhexyl) fumarate (DEHF). Endocrine disruptors are chemicals that can interfere with the hormone system, they can cause cancerous tumors, birth defects, cardiovascular disorders, metabolic disorders and as mentioned earlier,  other developmental disorders(1).
This study comes from Martin Wagner and Jorg Oehlmann of the Goethe University Frankfurt, Frankfurt am Main, and Michael Schlusener and Thomas Ternes of the German Federal Institute of Hydrology. They determined that bottled water could contain serious amounts of EDCs that should be a cause from concern.
Researchers used spectrometric simulation to narrow down their findings to DEHF as the only possible EDC giving rise to harmful activity. DEHF is also known as an anti-estrogenic compound, which means that another unidentified EDC must be present in the samples that showed anti-androgenic activity.
The authors employed a sensitive in vitro bioassay to characterize the total estrogenic burden leaching from plastics, including potential mixture effects and unidentified EDCs. Using a similar approach, a series of studies reported a widespread estrogenic contamination of commercially available bottled water.  Here, we combine biological and chemical analysis to identify putative steroid receptor antagonists in bottled water. Most of the products were potently antiestrogenic and antiandrogenic in the bioassays. Nontarget high-resolution mass spectrometry pointed towards maleate and fumarate isomers as promising candidates and subsequently enabled the identification of di(2-ethylhexyl) fumarate. Because its concentration is too low to explain the observed activity, other compounds must contribute. However, further maleate/fumarate isomers are not only biologically active but structurally highly similar to phthalates. Hence, we speculate these compounds might represent a novel, so far overlooked group of EDCs. An increasing number of in vitro studies reports the presence of EDCs in bottled water. With previous studies focusing on estrogenicity, the present work provides evidence for an additional contamination with steroid receptor antagonists. We detected antiestrogens and antiandrogens in the majority of analyzed bottled water products. Moreover, the antagonist activity was very potent. An equivalent of 3.75 ml bottled water inhibited estrogen and androgen receptor by up to 60 and 90 percent. Bottled water from six different countries has been found to contain estrogenic, antiestrogenic, as well as androgenic, progestagenic, and glucocorticoid-like chemicals. This demonstrates that a popular beverage is contaminated with diverse-acting EDCs(1).

What Can You Do?

The answer is simple, don’t drink bottled water! Apart from that, you can purchase water filters that take out the chlorine and fluoride from your water if you choose, they aren’t that hard to find and if you do your research you can find some fairly inexpensive ones. If you’re interested, shoot us an email and we can help you out in your search. 24,000 chemicals is a lot of chemicals to be putting into your body. I’m not saying all of them are harmful, but who would want to take that chance? It’s not uncommon for us to taste some of these chemicals within the water that come from the plastic, especially if you leave the bottle in the sun for a short period of time.
Here is a very informative video that shares a lot more of what needs to be known about bottled water:

Map Shows Which Countries Are Running Out Of Water

This Map Shows Which Countries Are Running Out Of Water

The World Resources Institute found that 37 countries face “extremely high levels” of baseline water stress, in the first such country-level water assessment of its kind, according to the global research organization.
The assessment, published Thursday, evaluated, mapped and scored water risks in 100 river basins, ranked by area and population in 181 countries. The study provides information relevant for a country’s economy, environment and community.
Countries received a score of 0-5 for each indicator — the higher the score, the greater the exposure to that specific water risk.
Scores above four indicate that, for the average water user, more than 80 percent of the water available is withdrawn annually. “That means companies, farms, and residents are highly dependent on limited amounts of water and vulnerable to even the slightest change in supply,” Paul Reig, the author of the study, said on the organization's website.
Singapore, for example, has the highest water stress ranking, of 5.0. The South-East Asian country is densely populated and has no freshwater lakes or aquifers and its demand for water far exceeds its supply.

Stop the 11% pay rise for MPs' salaries to David Cameron

This petition will be delivered to:
David Cameron

David Cameron: Stop the 11% pay rise for MPs' salaries

Within weeks David Cameron will be making a decision on the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority recommendation for a 11% pay rise on MPs' salaries.
Initially the pay rise was meant to come with the scrapping of expenses (they use our taxes to pay for their daily meals, travel, expenses for second homes and duck ponds etc) but now they are demanding the pay rise whilst keeping their expenses intact. All the while they are cutting benefits for vulnerable families, freezing salaries for our most loved nurses and sacking the police we need to keep our communities safe.
The British people can't take much more of this, the blatant stealing from the poor to give to the rich is getting out of hand and it's clearly apparent that the current government are also silencing mainstream media to keep important changes from us.
We, the British public are part of a democratic society and need to express our disgust at the proposals to yet again, give bonuses and pay rises to those who not only don't need them, but don't deserve them! They should not receive a pay rise of any kind during this desperate economic time. MPs should refuse a pay rise or bonus to show that we're truly 'in this together.'
Please sign this petition and share with your family and friends, don't be complacent and believe this will all go away, or that it's too late; it's never too late to use your voice.
Much love and support to everyone who is struggling due to the actions of this Government.

Billboard in Peru Turns Air into Clean Drinking Water

Just outside Lima, Peru, a billboard provides drinking water to whomever needs it - producing water out of thin air for residents of the desert city.

The world has known jugs, taps, plants etc that are used to filter water, but imagine a 50 feet tall billboard on the main road that filters water for all of its adjacent area ? Yes, this has been made possible by the University of Engineering and Technology, Lima, Peru.

This billboard is capable of actually making 100 liters (26 gallons) of water everyday out of thin air (no its not a bank and no its not creating any paper currency but it’s much better than that). It works like this: the billboard is designed the way that it captures moisture from the air and puts it through a reverse osmosis system, turning it into drinking water which is then stored in 20 liter tanks. It is capable of providing drinking water for hundreds of families per month.

Originally it was designed by Lima’s University of Engineering and Technology as an advertisement for enrollment  the billboard works to overcome the lack of transportable water in the coastal desert. The resourceful design takes advantage of the atmospheric humidity of almost 98%, to counter the dangerously low annual rainfall (just over half an inch).

We all know that the government will not fund this but could this be the answer for other drought-stricken cities around the world? Can this be used in the deserts of Africa where many people die either because of the non-availability of water or because of the water born diseases? Can this method be used in cities and cosmopolitans where most of the tap water is fluoridated which is not only bad for health but also a reason for many diseases such as cancer.

4,600 tonnes of gold kept hidden in UK bank's secret vaults

LONDON: With 197 billion pounds worth of gold stacked floor to ceiling, the Bank of England's high security vault is one of the most valuable rooms on Earth, British media reported today.

Rare footage of the Bank of England's huge underground stash - brimming with 4,600 tonnes of 'forgotten gold' - was widely published in the media.

But the Bank's precious metal reserves - each shelf worth 35 million pounds each - have been filmed by the University of Nottingham for a new series about elements called 'The Periodic Table of Videos'.

Britain currently has 310 tonnes of gold in its reserves, but there is more than 4,600 tonnes in the vault because many other people use it for safe keeping, Daily Mirror reported.

Each highly-guarded bar of gold has its own number, like a car registration, meaning when it is traded the buyers don't physically get to take it home.

Instead, the identification number is just transferred to their account, meaning some of the bars have been in the vault for nearly 100 years.

Greece’s Barter Economy

Greece’s economic struggle has created the need for bartering once again among its middle class. Modern Greeks are turning to the ancient system of bartering to replace their failed market. The Network Exchange and Solidarity of Magnesia, is an online platform facilitating Greece’s new barter exchange.

The Network Exchange and Solidarity of Magnesia is currently the acting bank for many suffering through Greece’s economic turmoil. The website issues a barter currency known as the TEM, meaning, Local Alternative Unit. TEM’s are acquired by exchanging goods and services with other people on the platform. The Network Exchange directs people to their nearest barter market. At these designated barter markets, people can trade their TEM’s for paper vouchers that can be used to purchase items with.

Bartering is the most straightforward way to operate a market, which makes it the go to system after an economic collapse as it relies on no assumed, or attributed value. The intrinsic value of an item or service is paramount in bartering. Greece has modernized the barter with the Network Exchange, using technology to revolutionize the ancient system.

Those who developed the Network Exchange say that they do not expect to be a permanent fix for the economy, but are up to the challenge if it comes to that. The Exchange’s homepage describes it’s purpose as “A positive action by the citizens themselves, who take their lives in their hands, creating employment opportunities, add value to local products, help their families and their businesses to survive and cope with the economic crisis.” The New York Times likened the Network Exchange to a “Members-Only Craigslist”.

Here are the base principals of The Network Exchange and Solidarity of Magnesia:

• Equality and equity – Network belongs to its members. All members are equal and hold equal share in the network.

• Openness and transparency – All members are informed of all decisions made and may be involved in the decision making process.

• Participation and Solidarity – Decisions are made collectively and all members are encouraged to partake for the common good and the shaping of society they want.

Living Without Money | The Moneyless Manifesto

Mark Boyle's new book, The Moneyless Manifesto explores in-depth the social, personal, ecological and economic reasons why we may want to transition beyond money into a localised, gift-based economy.

During a philosophical evening conversation about the many troubles in the world, Mark Boyle realized that each of the many issues he was discussing with his friend shared a common root cause: money. Inspired by Mahatma Ghandi’s quote, “Be the change you want to see in the world,” Mark, then a successful businessman, resolved to live for a year without spending or receiving any hard cash. After successfully living moneyless for a whole year, Mark decided to continue living like that for two further years. As he now claims, this turned out to be the most fulfilling period of his life.
“I’ve now more friends in my community than ever, I haven’t been ill since I began, and I’ve never felt fitter. I’ve found that friendship, not money, is real security. Most western poverty is psychological. Real independence is interdependence.”
Since that experience, Mark authored two books: The Moneyless Man and The Moneyless Manifesto. In these books, he described his experience of living moneyless and provided a guide for reducing society’s dependence on money; he donated all the profits he made through the books to charity. Furthermore, Mark is the founder of the free economy movement, an alternative economy that has been adopted by local groups all across the world. Mark continues to spread his message that we need to change the way we live. He strongly believes that we are addicted to money and our obsession with it is leading to the destruction of our planet. Moreover, he is of the opinion that we need to live in harmony and live in a sustainable manner; in other words in a more “heartfelt” and “loving” way. He stresses out that we need to do this now, before it is too late. As he says, we are all part of the story, so we need to be part of the change. A very important message indeed.

JP Morgan whistleblowers confess bank manipulates gold & silver

In a stunning development, two JP Morgan whistleblowers have confessed that the bank manipulates the gold and silver markets. This is truly a shocking admission by the courageous JP Morgan whistleblowers. In a blockbuster King World News interview, London metals trader Andrew Maguire told KWN that the two JP Morgan employees came directly to him with hard evidence that the bank was actively manipulating the gold and silver markets.
This is a truly catastrophic event for JP Morgan, which up to now has denied manipulating these markets. Below Maguire takes KWN readers around the world on a trip down the rabbit hole as he discusses how he led the two JP Morgan employees to turn over the evidence to a law firm which specializes in high profile whistleblowers, and also to the CFTC. According to Maguire, the CFTC has virtually buried this information. Is this a cover up, or the next LIBOR scandal about to be exposed? Below is what Maguire had to say in this blockbuster interview.

China Cashes In on Bankrupt Detroit

Like our NEW page on Facebook.Click here > EducateInspireChange.org

Detroit’s filing for bankruptcy on July 18 was the culmination of decades of “Progressive” politics and brazen corruption. “Detroit is a very high-profile example of some of the challenges our cities continue to face, but it’s by no means unique,” said Kil Huh, an analyst who tracks local finances for Pew Charitable Trusts. “Detroit is indicative of governments living beyond their means — and they are going to eventually have to pay the piper.”

The time to pay the piper has indeed finally arrived for Detroit. The question is: How will the piper be paid? Some are calling for another federal bailout. But President Obama and Treasury Secretary Jack Lew, sensing that the American taxpayers are in no mood for more mass payouts for deadbeats, have declared there will be no bailout for the beleaguered city. At least not a direct bailout. However, the plan seems to be for Detroit (and other cities in the same predicament) to obtain an indirect bailout by transferring their bloated and unfunded public union pension plans to ObamaCare.

This would mean, of course, that the taxpayers would be stuck for billions of dollars that the city’s Democratic politicians promised to the union activists and welfare drones, in exchange for their votes.

There is another alternative poison pill that is being promoted as a magical panacea: Let China buy Detroit — and all the other bankrupt U.S. counties and municipalities. With hoards of cash and more than a trillion dollars in U.S. Treasury securities, Communist China’s State Owned Enterprises (SOEs) can scoop up big chunks of distressed American real estate for pennies — literally; many of Detroit’s 78,000 abandoned buildings can be had for a single dollar.

The firesale has been underway for some time now, and the Beijing regime is already a major buyer. “Dozens of companies from China are putting down roots in Detroit, part of the country’s steady push into the American auto industry,” the New York Times reported on May 12. “Chinese-owned companies are investing in American businesses and new vehicle technology, selling everything from seat belts to shock absorbers in retail stores, and hiring experienced engineers and designers in an effort to soak up the talent and expertise of domestic automakers and their suppliers,” the Times article continued. “While starting with batteries and auto parts, the spread of Chinese business is expected to result eventually in the sale of Chinese cars in the United States.”

Of course, Beijing has far more than car sales in mind; far more important, in Beijing’s eyes, is the political leverage that will come from having thousands, then tens of thousands, and then millions of American workers, suppliers, and subcontractors (and voters) dependent on Red China’s SOEs for their jobs and livelihoods.

A CNN story entitled, “Can China help save Detroit jobs?” in 2011, reported:

At the Shanghai Auto Show, car exec after car exec is talking about big investment plans — finding Chinese partners, setting up factories, possibly building cars here for other parts of the world….

Pacific Century Motors is the latest Chinese company to inject money into Detroit. PCM is partly owned by the Beijing city government. For $450 million, PCM bought Nexteer, a storied unit of General Motors that makes steering equipment. Nexteer employs thousands of people in Michigan. (The sale was coordinated by Chinese auto parts maker Tempo. Tempo was also an investor in a $100 million deal to buy a brakes division of former GM parts maker Delphi.)

Chang'an Motors, Ford's Chinese partner, is opening an R&D center — and is looking to hire when it does.

Red Carpet for the Reds

Michigan Governor Rick Snyder is a big booster of Beijing’s investment invasion of the United States. The governor announced in April that he is headed to China again this fall, his third trip to the “People’s Republic.” During his visit to the Communist dictatorship in September 2011, Gov. Snyder was interviewed by People’s Daily Online, and he let them know he was rolling out the red carpet for them in Michigan:

Q: How do you see the potential in building further business collaboration with China???

A: There are lots; there are lots; because of the automotive industry and the agricultural area, two areas that have really been highlighted, but almost any area, that there’s common ground to do business. It’s very exciting. There’re many market opportunities in China, the sales in China, the export and the new business here. And also, Michigan is one of the open places for business that encourage international trade, immigrants to come; an exciting place. We have been working diligently to improve Michigan’s business climate and are here to open new doors for trade and business between our state and China. We want to get the message out that Michigan is open for business too, because we’ve gone through very difficult times. We think we have great values now in Michigan and we are creating a very competitive environment for enterprises to succeed and do well. We’ve redone our tax system, our regulatory system; we’ve just balanced our budget. So we’re doing many things to be very business-friendly. Michigan is already one of the top 10 U.S. states receiving direct investment from China. There're at least 50 Chinese auto-related companies that have set up shops in the Detroit area.

Tom Watkins, a former Michigan state superintendent of schools, is another China booster and “business consultant.” In a recent newspaper column, Watkins wrote:

According to the Asia Society, the Chinese will be seeking overseas investment opportunities of $1 trillion to $2 trillion over the next decade. Detroit, Michigan and the U.S. need to be aggressive about securing a chunk of Chinese investment….

Detroit can rise like a phoenix from the ashes of its bankrupt humiliation. Just as the Chinese sought knowledge and investment from the West, Detroit may look to the East to rise again.

Detroit and Michigan leaders should tap China’s continued rise, economic clout, and excess capital — seeking a place for that country’s investment as yet another tool in its efforts to revitalize a once-great city.

Detroit is now a hollow, broken shell of the once prosperous and famous “Motor City,” world capital of the automotive industry. Since 2000, more than a quarter of the city’s population has fled the area, and the exodus continues. Huge sections of the city have become desolate no-man’s lands that look like bombed-out war zones. Many of the remaining inhabited neighborhoods are war zones, with the highest violent crime rates in the country, abandoned buildings and abandoned hopes. Unfortunately, many other cities are headed for the same sinkhole that ate Detroit. President Obama’s hometown of Chicago heads the list, according to some analysts; others include: Minneapolis; Portland, Oregon; Cincinnati, Ohio; and Trenton, New Jersey (see here,
and here).

“None of the other cities are as far along [as Detroit], but there are dozens, if not hundreds of cities that have similar issues,” says Alan Mallach, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution in Washington. “Every other industrial city has problems that could send them down the same path.”

What Mallach and many other commentators have failed to mention is that Detroit’s woes are not the result of some natural disaster, such as Hurricane Katrina; they have been visited upon Detroit as a direct result of the political decisions and policies of the past 60 years. More specifically, they are the direct result of six decades of misrule by politicians of the Democratic Party, who turned Detroit into a Democratic fiefdom and used Detroit’s public purse as their personal piggy banks.

Trevor Loudon, in his NewZeal blog for July 22, properly nailed the blame for Detroit’s demise on the radical Marxists and actual Communist Party activists that took over the city during the long, ruinous rein of Coleman Young.

“If one man could be blamed most for the destruction of Detroit, it would be Coleman Young,” Loudon writes in his article, Coleman Young: the Communist Who Destroyed Detroit. “Mayor from 1974 to 1993, Young set a city already in decline on the pathway to the disaster area it is today.”

Loudon then provides a chronicle of Young’s Communist Party activities, along with active links to articles documenting the communist activities of many of the other radicals who helped Young transform Detroit into the dysfunctional and corrupt “people’s republic” it is today.

It is a story that is much the same for most of the other urban centers now facing the same grim reckoning: the progressives/communists/socialists/liberals destroy the once-prosperous and pleasant communities, and then propose that we embrace Communist China as our savior.

We wrote about this in “China: The New Investment Savior?” (May 12, 2011), particularly focusing on the National Governors Association’s wooing of Red China’s state-owned corporations. As we noted then, the PRC would love to “invest” here massively, and, if allowed to do so, would create colossal centrally-planned SEZs (Special Enterprise Zones), as they have done in Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Shantou, Xiamen, and other Chinese cities. In a very short time they pack millions of people into these new urban anthills.

As we have reported, China’s Communist Party has launched a huge program to transplant between 250 million and 400 million Chinese from rural areas to newly created “cities” over the next 12 years. Much of this will involve forced relocation of rural populations who wish to stay on their local farmland. Do Americans really want Communist Party central planners who cavalierly order hundreds of millions of people around at whim to be our new landlords and employers? Apparently, many mayors, governors, county commissioners, and congressmen do. As does President Obama, who is now negotiating a bilateral investment treaty with Beijing.

It would be a very good idea for Americans to rethink this proposed trend and let their elected officials know there are other options besides federal bailouts and Red China fire sales. U.S. companies and individual private investors are holding trillions of dollars in cash that they would gladly invest in places such as Detroit — if the radical politicians and their punitive Marxist taxes, regulations, and policies were removed, so that free enterprise could have a chance to operate and flourish.
