City uproots couple’s 17-year-old front yard garden

Jennifer and Jason Helvenston of College Park, Orlando, Florida have been ordered by local officials to remove their front yard vegetable garden at a time when Orlando is touting its environmental credentials and reaching out to citizens for input on what additional steps the city could take to become one of greenest urban centers in the country (see the Mayor's youtube message on this here: ).

They have begun collecting petition signature locally and we are calling on gardeners in other parts of the world to help Jason deliver a strong message that food gardens - both in front of homes and in back - are part of Orlando's and other cities' pathway to a healthy, green future.
