Do the overpaid white-collar decision makers of the former "Big 3" bear any responsibility? The failure to have any vision of the changing marketplace? Poor engineering? Designed obsolescence? Plain old arrogance? Any benefits agreed to at the negotiating table were known in advance, so they could be planned for. If they couldn't afford the benefits, then don't enter into the agreement! If they ran the train into the ground at the negotiating table, then how is that a political issue? Detroit is a wreck because the American auto industry was a gravy train that ignorant people thought would never run dry. Bad and greedy business people and power hungry union representatives, each with a greater interest in short term victory than long term success. The 1% got their piece of the pie and split. The 99% are left with the rusting hulk, their benefits stolen out from under them. That isn't Republican or Democrat; that is criminal.
